Hey everybody,

Let me introduce myself first to you all and why i starded to work as an entertainer.

As you know, my name is Steve and I will tell you how I become an entertainer and why, have fun reading it.

I’ve studied hotelschool for waiter and cook and my goal was then to work on a cruiseship. Then in 2001 I got the chance to work as a waiter for Disney Cruise Line in America. When i started i got a cours about how it is to work on a cruiseship and also a lot of information about Disney, in my group where also the main entertainers, who became friends. On the cruiseship I did my waiterjob and after my hours i helped the entertainers. Here my love started for entertainment. Entertainment has an interesting filosofie acttualy;

People save sometimes 1 year for their holiday, they start to build their own image and dream. When they arrive on the airport and step on the plain their dream comes reality, a couple of hours later they arrive in the hotel, and here we, the hotelstaff, come in the picture. As an entertainer you spent a lot of time with the guests, build a “friendship” and we have the power to make their holiday even more special then it already is. We are part of an memorie of their great holiday. Later we can keep in contact with then for instance on Facebook, show them foto’s and video’s about the life in the hotel and maybe they come back the year after to relive their dream, or follow you to an different hotel.

I don’t have to tell you that Disney is perfect in making and keeping this dream. I wanted to do this also. So in 2002 I started in Mallorca as an kids entertainer, the year after I was working in Kos, Greece, also as an kids entertainer. I loved it but I stoped and studied for 3 years youth and disabled care. It is also a very hard, emotional but so valuable work, to give children with a mental dissability a smile on their face by just riding a bike, walk or swim with them. In the mean wile, I also joined the make a wish foundation, this is a organisation with volunteers who realise the best wish of a child with a life-threatening illness. It is great to let the child and their families live one day or sometimes longer their dream without thinking about the illness or the daily problems. Also in this case the gift that I recieve is a smile and being part of their memorie, just by giving them an great unforgettable time.

Entertainment is a huge word for thousends things; television, showbars, casino’s, movie’s, radio, holidays, yeah even in a strange way the make a wish foundation. Millions of people work everyday to create a smile on somebody’s face and let them forget for a little while the problems that they have. It is great to teach new entertainers this value, to let them understand that this is not just a job bur much more then that. Of course not everyday is perfect and sometimes you’ll have also a bad day, but then there is always some one else who makes you smile.

I am proud to be part of  this group, and hope to do this work for a long time. Because the best gift doesn’t come in a box with a nice ribbon, it’s a smile on somebody’s face given with lot’s of love, friendship and hounesty.

After the 3 years I left Holland/Belgium and moved to Spain, and the rest of the story you know.

This month I will try to show you all different styles of entertainment. I’m lucky that this is also in the carnaval periode and especially here on Gran Canaria.
