There are more than 600 people working with Acttiv at the moment and the enclosed graphic is showing you where they are placed.

With Acttiv you can get an entertainment job both in campings and in 3,4 and 5 star hotels during all the seasons of the year. In the summer season there are positions on the Canary Islands, the Balearic Islands and the Spanish mainland. On the other side, in the winter season there are jobs on the Canary Islands (Lanzarote, Gran Canaria, Tenerife and Fuerteventura).

Acttiv is every day getting bigger and bigger but for you to have a better idea about it; we have created the above graphic. In green there are the number of hotels or campings and, in red the number of entertainers, all this information appears divided according to the region.

Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Tenerife y Gran Canaria are islands that form part of Canary Islands. On the other hand Mallorca, Ibiza and Menorca are islands that belong to Balearic Island. Cataluña, Levante and Andalucía are regions from the Spanish Mainland.

This graphic corresponds has been created with data from this moment. As we are in the beginning of summer season, this is the high season and the one with more people working with us. It can be a perfect job for summer but as well a position for the whole year. Bare in mind that the hotels in Canary Islands remain during all the seasons.

We are aware that when many of you come to Spain to work as entertainer you hear for first time terms as NAF, NIE and “Seguridad Social”… you deal for first time with a contract in a foreign country and it is even written in Spanish…. obviously you freak out with all of this!

Today and in our following posts we will try to give you an answer to common comments and questions we are often asked to. Hope it helps you and, above all, we would like to encourage you to ask any further question you may have or suggest new topics.

Let’s start with the basics:

1. What kind of contracts does Acttiv offer?

It is a Spanish Labour contract called “fijo discontinuo”. This term doesn’t have an easy translation into English but, basically, it is a permanent contract that works by season. Your contract doesn’t have an ending date. As soon as the position finishes your contract goes to stand-by. After that, HR will give you a call when finding a new position that seems right for you. As the latest this new position will be offered a few weeks before the next summer season.

2. Can I quit the contract?

Yes, you are always free to quit the contract as long as you respect the notice:

- During your first month you are able to quit at any time.

- After a month you will have a two weeks notice

- After having your contract in stand-by you can always refuse the new job position offered.

3. When will I have to sign the contract?

The contract is always signed upon arrival.

4. And then you may wonder… and won’t I have the chance to check out my work conditions before getting there?

You can ask a copy of your contract when HR department offers you the job position, we will be happy to send you a copy by e-mail for you to go through it in advance. Take into account that as it is just a copy of you contract, it will be in Spanish. So you will have the opportunity to start practicing….

We have a great piece of news to share with you: we have launched a new web site in www.acttiv.net. And what is even more interesting we have created a special section to collect different activities you may want to implement.

The main objective of this site is having an online platform where to show our products mainly to Tourist Resorts both to the ones currently working with us and to those who don’t and may require our services. As you could check many of the videos we have shared with you in Facebook are available in this site.

However, not everything has been written for the Resorts… we have created an Activities Gallery just thinking about you, about what an entertainer has always dreamt to have access to.

Our propose has been creating an Activities Gallery where uploading the “How to” of various activities we think they are popular or can be done to celebrate a special date or event… It is just a sharing place… We are trying to organize the info as better as we can and we will upload new ideas and activities every month. We will keep you posted of new updates through Facebook…

We encourage you to surf in the site and share you thoughts about it with us. We are still in the learning process of building a new site and if you have any suggestion we will be happy to hear it …

BTW…. Sorry guys… as so far we are just working in Spain… the web site is just in Spanish… but maybe in the future we open it up to English… still long way to get there….

The new trends say that in this new way of travelling the city is no longer what matters, we search for experiences. Let´s take an easy Spanish example. Certainly if Pamplona is widely popular is not because it is a beautiful city founded in Roman times that still conserves three of the four sides of the city walls now surrounded by a pretty park. These gifts are not their main attractions, if Pamplona is popular is thanks to Ernest Hemingway that brought to widespread attention the San Fermín festival and the running of the bulls or encierro tradition.

Pamplona is a quiet city during the whole year and change completely between July 7^th to 14^th when welcomes thousands of people from everywhere in the world who want to experience such a tradition. Clearly the city is not the destination, the fiesta is the excuse for the travelling and as this example we can find many more just in Spain: Music Festivals such as Benicassim or Summer Case; more popular fiestas like the Tomatina in Buñol (Valencia) or Carnival in Tenerife.

What matters when planning holidays is not just where but when. Certainly sometimes our dates for holidays are not that flexible and we would love to have some kind of Ernest Hemingway who could inspire us and let us know about some good event that help us to experience new feelings rather than taking pictures in front of great buildings. It is impossible to find so many Hemingways but I would like to share with you a great tip I have just found in the net: it is Joobili.com.

This web site that was in 2009 qualified between the 10 best new travel websites for Times Online offers a great range of information on events in Europe. You just have to pick up a date for your holidays and it shows you many events in Europe. Their slogan is “You say when, we say where”.

The course is addressed to friendly and dynamic people between 18 to 30 years who want to become entertainers and it covers both theorical and practical lessons: from Sport, Children Activities and Choreography or Shows to Public Relations and Customer Services tips.

Few days back in the post What are you able to? we shared with you the fact that in every course we see how the participants get surprised when they discover some of their skills that had remained hided until then. A tourist entertainer must be versatile and sometimes in order to find out many of our abilities we need to get rid of our nervous, face the situation and, very important, being part of a team.

Do you need any evidence? Seeing is believing, isn´t it?… Therefore here you have it. It is their first time in stage and they look pretty comfortable… It is their first show´s last song; they are the first course 2010 participants, enjoy it as much as they did! Well done guys!

We want you to pay attention to our number of fans. It is amazing to see such a great success for a dancing performance carried by someone who is funny but, certainly, not a professional dancer. In this clip a guy called Judson Laipply manages to make us laugh for more than 6 minutes driving us along 32 songs showing what the clip´s title reads: the Evolution of Dance.

Who is actually Judson Laipply? According to Wikipedia, he is “an American speaker and dancer”. Searching in his website we have found out that he has been a really versatile guy, he has been working on a cruise ship, at a camp, being an aerobics instructor and teacher, and he is even a writer with poems and weekly columns published. And then we wonder is there anything he is afraid of? It looks like he dares to face any new challenge and what we like the most about this guy is that he knows how to get the success from all of it.

The popularity reached by The Evolution of Dance is the proof that to stand out sometimes being creative and innovative is more important than have the perfect skills. Judson doesn’t dance as good as many others but certainly his video covers all the key points to connect with the public. It has humor; it is creative and speaks an international language: the music.

“Where there is a will, there is a way.” That´s how the popular saying challenges us but then fears and insecurities come up and, of course, anything is “easier said than done”. Every course organized to train new Tourist Entertainers has something that never ceases to surprise us: we can certainly say that 95% of the participants discover during it they are actually able to do many things they couldn’t ever imagined. They get rid of their nervous and become aware about many of their skills that are usually kept hidden.

As any other profession becoming a Professional Entertainer requires a long learning process. For sure, they are inner characteristics that helps such as being open, dynamic and positive, but there are as well a part of practice and theory than can help to jump into a better level. Just to mention some of them: learning a few tricks, practice in front of a microphone, helping to choose the best activity for every kind of client profile.

Basically learning from current entertainer professionals’ experience, understanding the relations between the different departments of a hotel and acquiring knowledge about how to program different kind of activities customized according to the clients and seasons help to earn self-confidence and being more spontaneous. It is a way to help finding that will that always surprises.

Being sporty, perhaps football…

Or running…

Maybe it is not that important to be so strong.

But what it is really important is to be very attentive with the customers.
