Children love to dance at the mini disco to all their favorite songs; Veo veo, Superman, Head Shoulders, knees and toes.

At the Puerto Azul we like to give the children a surprise! Every evening we dress up in different costumes. It’s a lot of fun, especially when you see their faces!! Sometimes the children smile or laugh at what your wearing… even the adults laugh!

I decided to make a short video of our costumes that we use for the mini disco…. there is also a surprise for you at the end… Tino the penguin.

The mini disco would not be complete without him! The children love him and can´t wait to see him each night. After they can have their photo taken with him and they can buy Tino´s party cd and t-shirts.

Fan of the Month August

Here are my top 5 ways to keep cool this summer:

1. Wet your wrists and other pulse points with cold water. Use a piece of ice wrapped in a face cloth, to continue after the coolness wears off. Constantly cooling off the wrists will also cool off the body. Never use just ice; make sure it is wrapped in a towel or something similar. Studies show that this will reduce your core body temperature by as much as 3 °F (1.5 ºC). The relief is almost immediate, and will last for up to one hour!

2. Drink water, even if you are not thirsty! You must replace fluids lost in perspiration to prevent dehydration. Oral re-hydration may be accomplished by drinking an electrolyte-balanced beverage. The electrolytes help to make sure you don’t lose vital minerals through sweating. Adding ice will also help cool you off. Avoid lemonade, iced tea, and other sugary drinks (see the Tips below). Ice does not actually help you cool off if it is in water you will drink. Cool water does, but the colder the water the more energy your body spends making it body temperature so that it can use it.

3. Avoid direct sunlight. Stay in a shaded area if possible. Exposure to direct sunlight increases the heat index, so that your body may experience temperatures even higher than the air temperature! If you must go outdoors, go in the morning or evening. Wear clothes that cover up your body. A wide-brimmed hat is good. Light-weight, loose-fitting cotton clothing should be worn. It is better to wear a shirt with long sleeves and a collar to prevent any exposure. Some people (for example, Bedouins – In arid, low humidity climates) believe it is even best to wear 2 or more layers of clothes.

4. Place wet towel on the back of your neck and also the top of one’s head. Athletic team doctors have used this for years!

5. Take off your shoes or hat while indoors! Much of the body’s heat is released through the soles of the feet, the palms of the hands, and the scalp. Keeping these areas cool makes a surprising difference.

Again a girl as fan! Yes, recently there is a lot of girl power on our Facebook page. So this month the award goes to Sara Grimley, Chief Entertainer in the hotel Valentín Puerto Azul on Mallorca. Congratulations!

After more than six months organizing this competition we have included a new prize to reward our Facebook Fan of the Month. From now on, in addition to the Certificate and video camera flip and Modem USB Internet Connection – both devices lent for the whole month – she or he will receive another small prize that will be able to keep. The prize will be different every month. This time Sara has won a MP4 player! Congratulations Sara!

Sara almost daily shares many pictures, links and comments on our Facebook-Site of ACTTIV. Besides, we are very glad to award for the first time one of our entertainers on the Balearic Islands. So she is the perfect Fan of the Month of August!

The career of Sara started quite early. She decided to become an entertainer at the age of three years! She started to take classes in modern

dance and ballet and at the age of 16 she first thought about working as an entertainer. But she finished school first and at the age of 18 she worked as entertainer for the first time at Butlins, a famous company for family holidays in the UK. This was the beginning and this summer, it’s already her 15th season as entertainer!

Sara has worked on Malta, Cyprus, Tunisia, Menorca and Mallorca, where she has been working now for 11 years. She started with Acttiv on May of this year and is Chief Entertainer at the hotel Valentín Puerto Azul where she does a great job.

For Sara the best about being an entertainer is meeting new people and making a difference to their holiday. And in the future, she would like to become a trainer to inspire future entertainers with her experience and ideas.

We are glad that Sara will be our Facebook profile picture during the whole month of August. Yes, you are right, our Fan is finally a girl. So this month the award goes to Rocío Luque Ripoll, Chief Entertainer in the hotel Sands Beach Resort on Lanzarote. Congratulations!

Rocío shares a lot of pictures and comments on our Facebook-Site of ACTTIV. Besides, she manages another Facebook page, the Buddys Club at Sands Beach Lanzarote, which is the page of the Kids Club of this hotel. And Rocío is an experienced entertainer. So we made her Fan of the Month!

Rocío started to work in the entertainment sector in 2006. She worked in Fuerteventura and a little bit later she came to Lanzarote. She got more and more experience and finally we found her and were glad to make her part of our team.
So in 2008, Rocío started to work with Acttiv in Lanzarote. Unfortunately, she had to leave us and the touristic entertainment after several month for some personal reasons. But in April of 2009, Rocío came back and since this time she has been working with ACTTIV on Lanzarote. She is Chief Entertainer in the hotel Sands Beach Resort in the touristic area of Costa Teguise. There she leads an entertainment team of 5 to 7 persons.

Rocío was born in Barcelona in 1985 and she speaks Catalan, Spanish, English and Italian. We are already curious about publications in different languages. She likes especially sports entertainment, which is quite important in the entertainment program of the Sands Beach Resort.

For those who do not know me, I am Max and Acttiv recently awarded me the Facebook Fan of the month in June so I got the opportunity to write in that blog. I’ll be writing about different topics like shows, rehearsals and teambuilding. This is my first blog and today I am writing about Shows and their importance for the entertainer and the client!

For a lot of tourist entertainers it is the highlight of their Job, and when I ask people that worked with me, what they miss the most, it´s nearly always the same answer: “doing shows!” Allthough they know how much work is necessary to go on stage with a permormance, it’s the one thing their heart is into. The reason might be simply that you work as a tourist entertainer for maybe 700 – 800€, but getting the applause from hundreds of people is a bonus that is worth a lot more!!!
In my case here in Taurito we are having a 14 days nightprogram where we are doing every single night, so there´s a lot of variety between microfone shows, sketches, dancing and acting shows.

All those shows have their own charackteristics, anyway still they have a lot in common. For all different shows in my opinion it´s important to work with costumes and if possible with decoration. Most important for all is in the end the “POWER” the entertainers are having on stage, you can dance every step right, forget no line of the sketch or even speak in four languages fluently on the microfone and have the most awesome decoration and costumes, if you don´t give all you have the people will not enjoy it! On the other side as long as the people see there is energy they’ll be more entertained even if there is a mistake happening.

Another very important point is to have a variety of different shows. People are different and they have different tastes so in order to satisfy the majority of your clients it is necessary to have a vast variety in your evening program. Let´s say you are doing in one week Mamma Mia, Grease, a hip-hop show (for example Metropolis) and We Will Rock You as dance shows, a sketch show and a mister election. it would be good to seperate the Mamma Mia and the Grease by three days as well as the other two dance shows and the more funny shows, because they are kind of similar in their target audiance. Also of course you need to know your audiance!!! If you have to do a show for mostly elderly people it would not be recomendable to do a modern show like “Glee”, or if your audiance is 80% German (or Spanish) you should think about putting Numbers or complete shows in German (or Spanish) language. The people appreciate it a lot.

To get the appreciation of the people of course there is a lot of work to do before and as well after the Show. Starting with the rehearsals of course that should be always concentrated but fun for the entertainers. But after the rehearsals the most important thing is the way how you sell the shows you make. There is nothing more important then the Personal guest contact to advertise your show. Also here is a lot of possibilties to do that, during the day Programm you may wanna work an hour in the costume and tell the people what´s going on tonight on stage. Or you can go one step further and build a whole thematic day around the nightshow (for example a Rock Day if you are doing We Will Rock You). Apart from that you reach the most people in the hotels restaurant at dinner, here you can make advertisement personally or as well with flyers you put on the Tables. And at last make sure you have good visible Posters for the Show in different places such like reception, your animation board, elevators or the entrance to the restaurant. As well you should use the first 15 minutes after the show for intensive guest contact to get a direct feedback and to advertise tomorrows program.

This month this award goes to Maximilian Stahl, Chief Entertainer in the hotel Paradise Taurito on Gran Canaria. Congratulations!

Max showed a lot of presence on our Facebook-Site of ACTTIV, and he is an experienced entertainer. So we made him Fan of the Month!

Max started to work with ACTTIV in October of 2008 for the first time. He worked on Fuerteventura, in the hotel Sunrise Paraiso Playa, where he was Chief Entertainer of his team. In Februrary of 2010 he left the Canary Islands to have a break from the entertainment business and went back to Germany.

But only a few month later, Max was back, and this time he preferred another island: Gran Canaria. After some month under the sun, he began to miss the exciting life of an entertainer. This was when we received a phone call from him to work with us again. And, of course, this is what we like most: when an entertainer comes back to us! So in March of 2011 Max started to work as Chief Entertainer in the hotel Paradise Taurito (Gran Canaria) where he is “el jefe” of an international team of 9 entertainers.

Maximilian was born in Germany in 1983. He speaks German, English, Spanish, and also a little bit of French. Speaking so many languages is obviously a plus for this job.

Max likes dancing and night shows, which are two aspects of the entertainment sector he likes most. His hobbies are travelling, dancing and musicals…. quite a lot parallels to his work! And he is really good with computers and video cameras.

We are glad that Maximilian will be our Facebook profile picture during the whole month of June.
